Missouri Landowners Alliance Retains an Attorney
Paul Agathen was born in McDonough County, Illinois, in the heart of the corn belt, where his father worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. The first money he ever earned came from walking behind a neighbor’s thresher, picking corn off the ground for 5 cents a pail. He has lived since the age of ten in the metropolitan St. Louis area.
He earned an undergraduate degree in business from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1969, with a major in economics. He then graduated cum laude from the St. Louis University School of Law, and earned an MBA from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.
After serving in the U.S. Army, and working as a law clerk at the Missouri Court of Appeals, Paul was hired in 1975 into the Legal Department of Union Electric Company (now Ameren) in St. Louis. After nearly twenty years in Legal, he was promoted to Vice President and then Senior Vice President of various other functions within the company.
While in the Legal Department, a majority of his work involved regulatory proceedings before the Missouri Public Service Commission, the Illinois Commerce Commission, the Iowa Utilities Board, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
He retired from Ameren ten years ago, and now lives with his wife Barb in Washington, Missouri.
